Understand what Hype is and its relationship with fashion, clothing, and style

The hype style can be broadly explained by ostentation or the habit of spending a lot of money on fashion items, exclusively related to streetwear style, also known as urban fashion. But the concept goes far beyond that.

To understand how the hype style works and its main components, it is essential to first understand where this concept comes from.

What is hype?

Hype is an English term derived from the word hyperbole, of Greek origin, which means to exaggerate. Known in Portuguese as hipérbole, the term is a figure of speech that consists of expressing an idea with intentional exaggeration, such as: "We're going to clear out the stock" – calm down, there's no need to call the firefighters, this phrase means that the store intends to sell everything it has in stock; or in another example: "it took me a century to write this article," it's not that much, but when it demands more time for research, the article can take a little longer to become perfect.

Hype is not ostentation

Hype style is different from ostentatious fashion because it does not aim to show how much a person spent, but rather how valuable that unique or rare item acquired is to them. It's being able to wear an outfit and go anywhere without anyone else wearing the same thing; it's about rarity. Members of the style say that hype fashion borders on ostentation, but it's not quite that.

Hype fashion is related to the consumption of rare items and moves a multi-million dollar market worldwide. According to research, many people in the movement seek rare pieces from streetwear brands and resell these items, achieving profits of up to 350%.

Hype fashion is the phenomenon of the 21st century

The hype style emerged in Brazil in 2005 and gradually disseminated its concept until it transformed the world of consumption into what it is today. To adopt the hype style of clothing nowadays, it is important to know a little about pop culture, everything that is successful, everything that becomes fashion, what causes and happens. Hype can be very cultured, politicized, a mix of cultures, intelligent, educated, and very cool.

Men's hype fashion is called "hypebeast." Any piece related to urban fashion can be considered men's hype clothing, especially sets of pants and jackets, whether bomber, waterproof, or windbreaker, which are produced exclusively or in limited quantities. Additionally, the use of shoulder and chest bags are very common in this style, as are collections of sneakers, jewelry, caps, beanies, and bucket hats.
